Introducing the Test Team

About 2 years ago I decided I needed a distraction, so I hopped on Craigslist and bought a mid 90s low end road bike for $200 and starting going for rides a few times a week. My first ride was about five miles long. Within six months I was riding about seventy miles once a week.

About a year ago I decided it would be fun to enter a race, so I chose The Tour of the Tucson Mountains, 86 miles. I finished that race in about 5 hours and 15 minutes. Later that year I rode the 109 mile El Tour de Tucson in 7.5 hours.

A few months ago I was talking to one of the owners of StrengthEngine.com, a friend of mine, and he was telling me about their cycling program. The problem he said, was it was completely untested. In theory it should work, but no one had ever done it and measured their success.

I was frustrated with my riding performance, and figured, “Hell, I’d love to test it out for you.” And the StrengthEngine Test Team was born. The idea has been refined since then, and now the Test Team consists of 3 full time riders, and 2 part time riders. All of us have limited riding experience, and want to step our game up, and StrengthEngine is giving us the tools to do so. This blog (and maybe some podcasts, video casts, pictures) will be our story of a years worth of training and racing. We’ll be analyzing the routine, talking about the ups and downs, and reviewing our performance.
