Proper rest makes a real difference
Early last week two members of our team got a head cold, so we decided to stay off the bike Tuesday and Thursday to heal up, but we kept going to the gym. This week was a “Medium Hard” week on my StrengthEngine program, which is a little bit of a rest week. The combination of the days off the bike and the rest in the gym made an incredible difference. After 2 weeks of intense riding and hard days in the gym, I felt incredibly strong on the bike this week. We were riding our warmups at 25mph with no problems, and went up A Mountain at 13mph steady. We’re still hammering out the details of our training regiments, and will probably continue to do so for the next year, but we’re taking a long look at fewer days on the bike, or less days in the gym. I can’t believe the difference I’ve felt on the bike this week. Tomorrow morning we’re going to ride up to Saddlebrook, up to the Preserve and back, which will be about 70 miles. I have a good feeling we’ll do it in about 3.5 hours, and feel good at the end. We’ve noticed a bid difference in power and stamina across the board, and it’s only bee 2 weeks. I can’t wait to see how we feel in a couple of months.
