Dog Days of Summer

Man! It’s gettin’ hot in Tucson! We did a ride up to Saddlebrook a
couple days ago, and it hit 98 degrees! That was an interesting
ride… it started out at my house downtown, then moved north on
Stone. We passed a salvage yard early in the ride and all got
startled by a German Shepard. We were cruisin’ at a steady 25mph and
we hear this loud bark and growl to our right. This dog was insane,
it went from a stand still to 25mph in the blink of an eye. We were
all relieved to see the fence between us and the dog. A couple minutes later we saw a pit bull looking dog crossing the
street in front of us. Leary from our previous encounter, Bill and I
each unclipped a shoe. Not to be cruel, but if it comes between
getting bitten or not, I’ll kick a dog if I need to. The dog must
have known we were ready for trouble, because it cruised passed us,
and went straight for Nate, who wasn’t quite as ready. I didn’t
really notice Bill or I, but barked and snapped at Nate. Fortunately,
we’ve been training hard, so the dog couldn’t keep up when we took
off.

After that, the ride went pretty well. We picked up a rider, Samuel,
who rode with us for awhile. I caught a flat tire about 20 miles into
the ride, but even with the flat, we made great time. We rode from
downtown to Saddlebrook in about 1 hour, 20 minutes, and that was with
the flat. Looking forward to getting out of the heat soon and
training in San Diego though, it’s been hot.
