Training in San Diego
About two weeks ago I landed in San Diego to stay for five weeks and
train on the bike. The weather here is incredible. It blows me away
every day how nice it is. The high here has been hovering right
around 70 degrees, which is lower than the lows out in Tucson. I hear
summer is in full swing in the Sonoran Desert, with high’s of 110 or
more. I’ve been staying with my aunt and uncle that live about a mile and a
half from the coast. When I head out on the bike I head straight
west, up over a rise and am greeted by an amazing ocean view. It
takes my breath away every time. Once I hit the coast I head south
until I’ve got a 30-40 miles and turn around and come back. RunKeeper
released their iOS 4 update for the iPhone, so I’ll have some rides
for you to look at again soon! It’s incredible riding on the coast
all the time. The terrain couldn’t be better; there’s not a mile of
flat ground, you’re always going up or down. There’s a very
consistent north-to-south wind, so the trip home is a little more
difficult. I’ve been trying to get in some good cross training while I’m out
here. I went for a couple mile run the other day, I’ve been rock
climbing, and later this week I’m gonna get out in the water and do
some open ocean swimming. Riding on the coast has lots of perks… great weather, great terrain,
amazing views, and plenty of pretty girls to wave at while I’m on the
